How we build it
A fireplace wall is the first thing people see in the room, so the layout has to land: full pieces at eye level, cuts hidden at the floor and ceiling, grout lines straight across the mantel. Clearances around the insert follow the manufacturer’s spec.

What materials work around a fireplace?
Ledgestone, natural stone, large-format porcelain and glazed tile. What matters is the substrate and the clearances the fireplace manufacturer requires.
Can you do floor to ceiling?
Yes. Tall surrounds need a flat, solid wall and a layout that lands cleanly at the mantel and the ceiling.
